GPS tracking devices utilize the Global Positioning System (GPS) to accurately determine the location of a vehicle, person, or asset. This position is recorded at regular intervals and transmitted via an embedded cellular (GPRS) modem to our Tracking Portal, where the data is displayed on a map in real-time or over a specified period.
Vehicle tracking streamlines fleet management by automating tasks such as scheduling maintenance, recording crew working hours, and tracking miles traveled. You'll receive real-time data, enabling informed decisions based on verified information rather than intuition. Precise vehicle monitoring enhances driver accountability and performance.
The device sends signals at preset intervals, which are transmitted to specialized software that interprets them as the device's location.
Protrack platform updates every ten seconds, providing users with a continuous, real-time view of the vehicle's location and route.
Protrack uses renowned cloud servers to securely store customer data. GPS data for each device is stored for 3 months, with the option to extend to 1 or 2 years based on user needs. Account data is stored indefinitely.
All live GPS tracking devices require a SIM card because they use cell towers to transmit real time locations. No monthly fee GPS trackers are popular because they do not require a SIM card because you download data from the tracking device to see everywhere a vehicle has been.
A GPS tracking device is typically installed under the dashboard, inside the glove compartment, or beneath the car seats. These locations offer both concealment and a clear signal path to the GPS satellites.
This issue often occurs with newly installed devices when they don't have movement speed data, causing them to filter out the current GPS data. To fix this, simply move the device outdoors for 2–3 minutes to allow it to acquire accurate location information and resume normal operation.
As the Protrack platform is a service-based platform, accounts can only be obtained through Protrack sales or its authorized dealers. It's important to note that obtaining an account means that future services will be provided by the entity that created the account.
To recover any account, you must provide specific details from the account, such as the device IMEI, ID number, modified device name, license plate number, registered email, or SIM card number.
When logging into the Protrack account on the web, the system will prompt users to complete their account information. If the user has provided a recovery email, they can reset their password using the email and account name. If not, they will need to contact customer support for assistance.
Protrack provides a list of supported devices that you can check. If your device is not listed, that means this device is not widely integrated. But you can also confirm compatibility by directly consulting customer support. Protrack can integrate new devices for users.
An offline device usually means the SIM has lost network connection, the device has lost power, or there's a server communication issue. Check that the vehicle battery is connected and the device wiring is intact. Restart the device if accessible, then wait 3–5 minutes for it to reconnect.
The access of API needs to be authorized. Please apply for that before using it.
User can provide the details of the API format which they need.
Full API documentation is available at docs.protrackgps.co.ke. It includes authentication guides, endpoint references, and code samples. You'll need an active Pro or Enterprise plan to access API features.
